| The Red vs Blue Wars Report: January Edition #1, 2010 |
| The Red vs Blue Wars Report: January Edition #1, 2010 New Year means new stuff to look forward to in 2010. Comic Preview Well guys, it’s the beginning of the new decade and we have heaps of new stuff coming up for you. First up is this update right here. What used to be known as the Weekly Update, the Red vs Blue Report will now be a less frequent and more content filled update of what happens around the community. The name comes from AxS Battle, who posted the idea in a thread I made in the forums. The name also comes from a machinima project that was cancelled or forgotten about a year ago. When can we expect an update you ask? The answer is, “whenever the update is necessary”. They may come out once or twice a month, depending on how much news there is to report on. However, I will make an attempt to write at least one update per month. Another new feature of the updates can be found by simply scrolling down. Our very own Super 17 will now be writing comics for us, so there’s even more stuff to look forward to each update. So, I believe this means a new banner for the Report is in order. Now, I don’t have the Photoshoping skills to create such a thing, so I’m going to ask you guys for help. If anyone is interested in creating a banner to appear at the top of every update, feel free to do so and post it in the comments here. I’ll pick out the best one and give the author credit in the next Report. New Forums The next newest thing to hit our website for 2010 is the brand new forums, which just went live a few days ago. What’s different about these forums? Besides the new look, the forums now support the new squad system and ranks we’ve set up within the site. There are heaps of other cool new features, and can all be found by doing some exploring of the new forums. NOTE: Be weary of the Friend and Foe options. While the Foe option sounds like a cool list to put all members of the opposite team on, it actually blocks them and makes their posts invisible for you to see, which isn’t cool. Unfortunately, the Post Counting Game has now been reset, and likewise the Post Counting Hall of Fame. On the plus side, you can take this opportunity to get back into the new hall of fame and perhaps increase your chance of a promotion New Squads Each team, Red and Blue, now have their own ‘sub teams” so to speak. These squads act as groups within the teams and can be used for organisation within battles or even events on the website. If you haven’t signed up for a squad yet make sure you check your respective Red or Blue forum to sign up. New Ranks A new rank system has now been introduced. Instead of posting it all here I’m going to link you this thread here where Rubber has explained it all nicely. Ranks, Classes, Titles and Rank Pictures are all explained within. War Stats and Player Stats Very soon we are going to start recording War Stats onto the website, just like the good ‘ole days. Similarly, we will begin recording individual player stats as well. As you can see, Rubber has started recording them for Modern Warfare 2, but we will also be doing them for Halo 3. Events coming up Well, enough about the new features. Let’s see what’s actually happening for the next few weeks. Official Modern Warfare 2 War Rubber is holding a MW2 war on the 30th of January, in celebration of the end of Midterms for American Schools (silly Americans, me and Ventril are still kicking back and enjoying Summer Holidays!) Anyway, here’s the thread which contains all the details. Game Nights Iceman is holding a game night on the 22nd of January, both on MW2 and Halo 3. Check this thread for all the details. Also, Zethyr will be hanging around on Halo 3 this Wednesday for Bungie’s “Be a Hero” campaign to raise funds to support the victims of Haiti’s recent earthquake disaster. It’s not really a game night as such, but just a chance to catch up and hopefully help out people in need. Here's the thread with all the info. Game Reviews Rockdio has posted the first Game Review here as of 2010. His review on Assassins Creed 2 can be viewed here. I’ve also created an FAQ (which are actually questions asked to me) on our Game Review feature, and can be viewed here. I advice everyone to read it as it contains the rules and other useful information on writing your review. And, I think that’s it for the first Red vs Blue Wars Report. Just a final thanks to Grim for setting up the new forums, Rubber for fixing it up before it went live, Hoffa for paying for the site and giving us a place to call home, and to all the members who have been active in the forums and kicked ass in the Wars. As a member of the community for about 4 years (and the next oldest member after Hoffa), it’s good to see this group still healthy and active. It just shows how much of an awesome group we are, and I’m sure we’ll be around for many more years to come. And without further ado, here’s Super’s first comic for the Report. The zombie outbreak mentioned by Zethyr is in reference to flu patients in Japan who apparently started speaking gibberish and acting violent. Here’s the relevant article. Oh, click the comic to see the full size. ![]() Posted by Banshee 21 on Wednesday 20 January 2010 - 06:03:50 | Add/Read Comments: 15 |
